Melba F. Sandberg

Melba F. Sandberg went home to be with her Lord January 25, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Barbara, surrounded by loved ones. Melba was born August 6, 1922 in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from Lewis and Clark high school. It was in Spokane that she met and married her husband, Luther E. Sandberg, of 58 years on April 26, 1941. She lived most of her life in Spokane, except the 12 years that she was a dorm supervisor at the Washington State School for the Deaf in Vancouver, Washington. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of the Deaf, Washington Association of the Deaf, and the Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor. Some of her favorite activities were bowling, bingo, and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, brother, and grandson. Melba is survived by her three daughters, Joyce (Larry) Kern of Payson, AZ, Barbara (Phillip) Soucy of Colbert, WA, Tami Sandberg of Spokane, WA; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church 2733 W. Northwest Blvd. Saturday, January 29 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Horizon Hospice 123 W. Cascade Way Suite E, Spokane, WA 99208-6070.
