Don went home to be with the Lord, February 17, 2011. He was born August 3, 1927 to Nordie and Violet Hustad in Fairfield, WA. He was raised in the Pacific Northwest working in the farming industry in his earlier years. At a very early age, he joined and served in the U.S. Navy. For many years he was an ironworker, working on Grand Coulee Dam among one of the many projects. He was employed and eventually became Owner of Custom Body Company of Spokane. He owned and ran the business for over 50 years until his son Gary acquired the business. Don had a zest for life. He enjoyed his family, many friends, a great meal and a good joke. He was an avid golfer, had a passion for cars and enjoyed any and all sports. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tyke. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene; his son, Gary and his wife Sue; and daughter, Deanna and her husband Pat. Don is also survived by two granddaughters, Jennifer and Katie; great-grandson, Brysen; two step-grandsons, Lance and Jason and their children; siblings, Virginia "Ginny" of Spokane and Kenneth of Coeur d'Alene, ID; along with several nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be at Riplinger Funeral Home 4305 N. Division on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9AM - 8PM. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at Riplinger Funeral Home on Thursday,February 24, 2011 at 1:00PM with a reception to follow at Mama Mia's Restaurant 420 W. Francis. In lieu of flowers we are asking donations be made to the American Heart Association (information available at the Funeral Home). Don a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend will be greatly missed, but will be forever in our hearts.
