MEHEW, Bessie S. –On March 7th, 2011, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother returned to her heavenly home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. Bessie was born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada on March 15, 1913. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, and a daughter, Beverley Harris. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Claudette and Thayne Whitehead, 3 grandsons—Derrick (Leah) Whitehead, Wayde (Teri) Whitehead and Dee (Sonia) Harris; 2 granddaughters, Deirdre (Chad) Plaster and Leann (Andrew) Porter; 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Bessie was dearly loved by all those who knew her. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Shadle Park Ward. Bessie blessed our lives with her love and kindness, her patience and compassion and her endless years of service to our family during their illnesses. Her uncomplaining and happy attitude has been an example to us all. She was truly an angel in disguise. Bessie was a superb cook and an expert seamstress. She loved gardening and flowers. She was so special to us and we will miss her sweet spirit very much. Those who wish to pay their respects, may do so at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N Division, Spokane, WA 99207, on Wednesday, March 9th, between 9a.m. and 8p.m. A graveside funeral service and dedication will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery. We want to express our appreciation to all the nurses and caregivers for their excellent care during the 7 years she was at Royal Park Care Center. Their love and concern and kindnesses to her were exceptional. Our family wishes to thank all of those who gave her such loving care.
