Robert K. Schumacher, Jr.

Robert (Bob) Schumacher, Jr passed away at his home in Liberty Lake, Washington on February 28th. Bob, the oldest of four siblings, was born on June 3, 1944 in Madison, Wisconsin, to Robert Schumacher and Gloria Kracht-Schumacher. The family eventually moved to Spokane, WA., where Bob graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1962. He met his future wife, Necia Baldridge, while attending college in Seattle. Upon his graduation from Eastern Washington State College in 1966, Bob moved with his wife to Walla Walla to teach French at Pioneer Junior High School. He also served in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve for six years from 1967. Bob was a well-known and well-loved teacher in the Walla Walla school system for thirty-five years, teaching for a few years at Pioneer Junior High and Walla Walla High School before finally settling at Garrison Middle School. He was best known as a science teacher, although through the years he taught many other subjects, including French, Math, and Electricity.. After retirement, Bob moved back home to Spokane. He enjoyed travel and made several trips to Russia and the Ukraine. He always enjoyed fishing, camping, and tying flies for fly fishing. He spent much of his retired years fishing in Washington and Alaska. Bob was a member of Valley Assembly church in Liberty Lake, WA. Bob is survived by Necia Schumacher of College Place, WA; his four children Aaron Schumacher of College Place, WA, Ian Schumacher of Federal Way, WA, Sonja Gooding of Walla Walla, WA, and Derrick Schumacher of Mountlake Terrace, WA; his brothers Dick Schumacher of Anaheim, CA and John Schumacher of Spokane, WA; sister Lynn Spens of Spokane, WA; and five grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gloria Schumacher. Memorial donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association or Disabled American Veterans.
