Marguerite "Pat" Holms (Age 85) Pat, our beautiful and gracious mother, grandmother and friend passed away March 29th, 2011. Pat is now with her husband Bill who passed in 1989 and her son David who died in 1986. She was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on October 27, 1925 to Thomas and Helen Pattno and was a graduate of Aberdeen High School in 1943. Pat was the oldest of 3 children, sister Gloria (Marv) Keenan and brother Thomas (Ann) Pattno Jr. She attended the Northwestern School of Nursing and graduated with an RN Degree. Pat moved to Spokane, Washington where she was employed at Sacred Heart Hospital. It was there where she met Bill Holms and they were later married in 1947. Pat worked for the Hospital until 1948 and then shifted her focus to being a mother and raising her five children; Steve (Sue) Holms, Karen (Harold) Barker, David Holms, Colleen (Paul) Kutz and Tammy (John) Barrington. Pat and Bill raised a family and together they owned the Farm Lot Garden and Pet Store on North Division for many years. Pat went back to work at Sacred Heart Hospital in 1966 and eventually became nursing supervisor, a position she held for nearly 30 years. After retiring from her work at the hospital, Pat was a volunteer for many community organizations. She was active in the House of Charity, Meals on Wheels, Lady Lions Club and Entre Nous. She took great pride in her service to St. Charles Parish performing in the church choir and was an active member in the church Altar Society. Pat's pride and joy were her grandchildren; Christine Barker (Steven Borley), Billy (Marie) Barker, Christopher Holms, Matthew Holms, Haley Barrington, Emma Barrington, Mackenzie Kutz, and great-grandchildren Ella Borley and Maddux Barker. She attended each and every school program, recital and sporting event possible. Pat and Bill were able to travel extensively. They traveled throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. They also vacationed in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Europe. Pat's favorite trip was to the Vatican and the Holy Land. Still, they called Diamond Lake their second home where many memories were made and many will continue to live on. A special thank you to the staff in the Evergreen Unit at Royal Park Care Center who took wonderful care of our mom where she spent the last 5 years. Pat had a special place in her heart for her sister-in-law, "Auntie Re" who continues to be supportive of the Holms Family today and who has been a wonderful and supportive friend of Pat's for many years.
