Pentti (Benny) J. Ulmonen (age 79) passed away March 30, 2011. He was born on October 8, 1932 in Mikkel, Finland. After serving two years in the Finish Army, Benny immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1962. Upon arrival speaking only Finish and knowing no one, he immediately acquired a position as a painter, which became his lifelong career. In 1964, Benny moved to California and began his own wallpaper and painting company. By 1966, Benny moved his company and family to Spokane, which became his home for the remainder of his life. One of his most cherished accomplishments was when he became a naturalized citizen of the US in 1975. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen V. Ulmonen; his daughter, Anne M. Ulmonen; and stepdaughter, Kathleen D. McGinnis. Benny is survived by his son, Harry W. Ulmonen; stepdaughters, Diana C. Yi, and Peggy M. Smith; and stepson, Shawn L. McGinnis. There will be a reception-open house held in his honor on Sunday, April 3, 2011 beginning at 2:00 PM at his home located at 2318 E. North Altamont Blvd. in Spokane. EVERYONE WELCOME.
