MINOR, James R. (Age 89) - Passed away peacefully on May 25th. Jim was born in Spokane, WA on June 17, 1921. He attended North Central H.S.. During WW II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Upon returning from the service, he met and married Leona Girard on April 26, 1947. They enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage and had two boys, Terry and Tim. Jim went to work for the City of Spokane Water Dept. as a heavy equipment operator. He retired after 28 years in 1983. Jim really enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He took great pride in having the most perfect yard in the neighborhood. He was also an avid bowler which he in turn taught to his sons. Jim loved his family very much and enjoyed watching them participate in all sports and activities they played in. He was a devout Catholic. Jim was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish for over 50 years, where he also served as an usher for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest; mother, Cora; brothers, Mel and Floyd; sister, Margery Gump; and son, Terry. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Leona; son, Tim; daughter-in-law, Jody Minor Velasco; grandchildren, Angie Barcomb (Dan), Ryan (Kristen), and Chad; great grandchildren, Lexi Barcomb and Hunter Barcomb. Visitation and the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at 7:00 PM at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 4305 N. DIVISION, SPOKANE, WA. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 4420 N. Jefferson St., Spokane, WA. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, or the charity of your choice.
