Maynard Arveson Maynard, 96, passed away at his home of 60 years on August 5, 2011. He was born in Chicago and came to the Inland Empire in the mid-1930’s. He met Myrtle, the love of his life, in Newport, WA. They were married at Salem Lutheran Church in Spokane on June 12, 1937, where he remained a member until his death. Myrtle predeceased him in 1999. After moving to Spokane in the early 1940’s, he forged a career in the timber industry, retiring as a lumber broker in 1979. Maynard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great, and great-great grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and skier, a sport he continued into his 80’s. He also loved foraging for huckleberries and mushrooms with his large extended family. Maynard will be dearly missed by four generations of family including daughter, Margie Arndt, son, John Arveson, grandchildren: Scott Arndt, Tammy Arndt, Laurie Arndt, Kirsten Arndt, Chad Arveson, and Shelby Stokoe, 6 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Special thanks to Anna Charlton and Jesse Chapel for their loving long-term caregiving, Hospice of Spokane, and all the family and friends whose assistance and support allowed him to remain at home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Salem Lutheran Church, 49-degrees North Ski Patrol or Hospice of Spokane. Memorial service will begin at 10:00AM Friday, August 12, 2011 at Salem Lutheran Church, 1428 W. Broadway, Spokane.
