Betty Rose Sandberg "Porky", passed away at her daughter's home September 7th, in Spokane, WA. She was born in Spokane on March 21st, 1923 to Harvey and Alta Walters. Betty graduated from John Rogers High School in 1941. That is where she met and later married Jack Davis Sandberg. They had two daughters: Janice and Jerrie. Having both a love of horses and a competitive spirit, Betty and Jack bred, trained and raced horses during the 1950's. Betty's favorite past time was having her friends and family to her summer vacation home at Hayden Lake from 1955 to 1985 and during winters riding snowmobiles with her family and friends, including trips to Yellowstone National Park. A successful business woman, Betty owned and operated Diamond Bowl bowling alley for over 30 years beginning in 1957. The bowling alley became a community venue for families in Spokane where they were always welcomed by Betty's smile and sense of humor. She will be remembered for her extraordinary love of life, kindness, inspiration, laughter, strength and unconditional love of family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her sister Pearl, and daughter Jerry Anne. She is survived by her sister Loraine Walters; brother Harvey Walters; daughter Janice Sandberg (spouse Joe Kawalec); grandchildren, Ty Rhodes (Joi), Tori Peterson, Michael Rhodes, Kim Breen (Michael) and Ray Dean; great grandchildren Jacob Hickey, Scott Rhodes, Tanner and Max Peterson, Hayden and Ashtyn Rhodes, and Carson Dean and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Flowers, RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N. Division, Spokane, WA. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery.
