Albert A. Krebs

September 12, 1927 — September 11, 2011

Albert A. (Bud) Krebs went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2011, in Spokane, Washington. He was born on September 12, 1927 in Halstead, Kansas, and spent his early years working on the family farm during the Dust Bowl era. The family moved west in search of better farmland and eventually settled in the Spokane Valley. Bud was one of 13 children raised in a small 3-room house in the Spokane Valley. He married his beloved wife, Marie, in 1950. For a few years, Bud drove truck for local freight companies, but eventually joined the Spokane Fire Department, where he proudly served for 25 years, retiring as Captain in 1981. While his fellow-firefighters will certainly remember Bud as a competent and professional member of the force, their fondest memories will probably involve the tasty meals he served up as station cook. During and after his years on the fire department, Bud also worked for many years in lawn sprinkler sales and service. Bud was extraordinarily handy, and showed his love for his family in countless practical ways, building, creating, repairing, or anything else that needed to be done. His perfectionist tendencies made for the most beautiful landscaping. Bud had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved life, loved to serve, loved to talk, and loved to give practical help to any who needed it. Anyone who knew Bud also knew that his love for the Lord Jesus Christ was at the core of his person. He was for many years an active member of Beacon Chapel, serving there in innumerable capacities. Since about 1990, Bud has been an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he also volunteered in many areas. Bud will be remembered by his family as a generous man of great warmth and caring. Bud was preceded in death by his step-son Kerry Brooks in 2002, and is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie, his children Kandyce (and Bruce) Gore, and Kendall Krebs, along with his grandchildren, Amy Copenbarger, Kerian Shumate, Kyle Dresback, Shelby Miles, Noelle MacEachran, Brent Gore, and is “Grampa Buddy” to 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six sisters and one brother; Goldie Wiebe, Hazel Churchill, Rosemary Krebs, Jane Butler, Lillian Hart, Laura Fox and Don Krebs. Visitation will be held at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N. Division, Spokane, on Friday, Sept 16th (9-8) and Saturday, Sept 17th (9-5). Memorial Service will be at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar, on Sunday, Sept. 18th at 2 PM.
