Paul N. Dailey, Sr.

May 4, 1920 — September 29, 2011

Paul Norman Dailey, Sr. It is with deepest sorrow we announce that on September 29, 2011, Paul Norman Dailey Sr "Grandpa", passed into the loving arms of his lord and savior Jesus Christ. With his adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren at his side, he lovingly and gently asked if we would allow him to go. Through our tears we wished him farewell. On May 4, 1920, Grandpa and his twin brother Bill were born to William and Florence Daily in Harrisburg Pa. They were soon joined by his beloved sister Marjorie Dittmar Bauer. His parents and siblings meant the world to him, loving them more than words can say. In 1941, Grandpa met and married Doris Bannister and they had their only child, Paul Norman Daily Jr in 1942. Shortly after the birth of his son, Grandpa joined the US Army's 3rd Armored Division with his service begining in 1943. He fought for his country in World War II, receiving many medals for his service, including 2 Purple Hearts. This particular time of his life he recalled often. He was always ready to share a memory of his tour. He remembered with great detail the countries he fought in, the leaders he liked and working his way through the cigarette camps to get back home. He delighted in having this as part of his history. Upon his return from the war Grandpa and Doris divorced and Grandpa was a single parent to his son. Where God closes a door he opens a window and in 1947 Grandpa was blessed to marry the one and only Concetta (Ange) Sullo Dailey. Together they raised lil Paul as Grandpa attended Johns Hopkins University earning a degree in Engineering. This degree and his determination started what would become a very long and prosperous union with The Martin Company. As the company evolved over the years, so did Grandpas career with them. Starting in an entry level position, Grandpa achieved the position of Vice President of Financial Planning. His journey took them from Baltimore, to Denver and finally to Santa Maria where he worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He retired in 1983 after 45 years of service with the company known today as Lockheed Martin. Santa Maria was home to Grandpa. He made many great friends and and was a truely great friend himself. He was very active and involved in his community as a member of the Foxenwood Mens Club, The Rams, The Santa Maria Country Club and The Elks Lodge. In 2002, after 55 years of marriage, Grandma Ange passed. This was a great loss to Grandpa, but once again God was there. In 2005 Grandpa married his longtime neighbor and dear friend Rosely Eckenfels Dailey. They shared a zest for their new life together. Their love for each other was obvious as they traveled the world, entertained in their home and lived everyday to its fullest. In 2009 Grandpa lost his sweet Rose. In March 2010 Grandpa began a journey he could never have imagined. He moved to Spokane, Wa. to live with his granddaughter and her family. This was a huge leap of faith for him, but he took it and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences for them all. As anyone who knew him can imagine, he won over Spokane. Everyone who met him loved him and called him Grandpa. Grandpa is survived by his sister Marjorie Dittmar Bauer, grandchildren Eric Dailey(Lisa), Amy Dailey Kent(Ray), great- grandchildren Cody, Kihley, Cassy, Gage, Koby and numerous neices and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wives, grandparents, mother Florence Fisher Dailey Patton, father William B Dailey, twin brother William D Dailey, son Paul Dailey Jr, and his grand daughter Shauna Dailey Kester. In his lifetime he brought so much happiness and joy to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. Arrangements are being handled by Riplinger Funeral Home 4305 N Division Spokane WA 99207. A memorial service will be held Oct 8, 2011 at 2 pm at the funeral home. Final resting at Hershey Cemetery 100 Mansion Rd Hershey PA 17033, at a later date.
