UNDERWOOD, Roger Hasting (age 76) – Entered into rest on October 28, 2011. Born on October 17, 1935, to Floyd and Beatrice (Hasting) Underwood in Spokane, WA, Roger loved the Inland Empire. He worked as an attorney in private practice in Eastern Washington, specializing in estate and trust planning, administration, and taxation. He received his Bachelor Degree from Washington State University in 1957, and Law Degree from the University of Idaho in 1962. While in college, Roger was a active with the Army ROTC Unit, and following school he served his country as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After completion of his service duty, he joined his father’s law practice in Davenport, then moved to Spokane where he opened a satellite office and continued to service his many clients and friends extending out into the surrounding farming communities for his whole career. In 1979, Roger was one of two Founders of the “Wheatland Bank” and served as Chairman of the Board for many years. He was State Chairman of the Washington State Bar Association Real Property, Probate & Trust Section for 1988-1989. Roger was also extremely devoted to his Masonic Fraternity. He was a Past Master and member of Acacia Lodge #58, Manito Lodge #246, Scottish Rite Bodies, York Rite Bodies, and was a Past Potentate of El Katif Shriners(1988). A proud Shriner, Roger, was also a member of the Sage Shrine Club, Whitman County Shrine Club, and the Nile Shriner’s Yacht Club. He was Past Chairman and Emeritus Member of the Board of Governors of Shriner’s Hospital for Children – Spokane Unit. He was a member of the Spokane Club. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, and more recently an active member of the Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church. Roger is survived by his wife, Synnove, at their home; sons, Jay Underwood and Jeff Underwood; granddaughters, Kelsey, Madison, and Sydney; grandsons, Brayden and Cameron; Synnove’s children, Yvonne (Rafat) and their family, Hailey, Caleb, and Makenna, and Shane (Lisa) and their son, Kolton; his brother, David “Bert” Underwood; his sister, Joy Glover; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N DIVISION, SPOKANE, WA 99207, on Thursday, Nov 3rd – 12 noon till 8 PM , Friday, Nov 4th, and Saturday, Nov 5th – 9AM till 5PM. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 7th, 2011, at the Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1601 S. Sullivan Rd., Spokane Valley, 99037. Graveside Masonic Service will be held also on Monday, at 2:30 PM, at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery, Spokane, WA. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
