James Bennett McKenney passed away on November 4, 2011. James was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 22, 1928 to John and Bessie McKenney. James graduated from Polytechnic High School in Baltimore. He later married Georgene May Guter in 1954. They settled in Spokane and had two children, Pamela and George. Georgene passed away in 1969. James later married Shirley Ingram in 1972. Shirley passed away in 2010. James retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force in 1968. He later worked at Inland Monuments until retirement. James was a gifted violinist and proved that be becoming 1st violinist in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1942. James grew up an accomplished Eagle Scout, who later helped his son’s troop by becoming their pack leader. When James was stationed in England, he had the opportunity to interview several groups to play at the General’s Ball. One of the groups happened to be The Beatles, but he mistakenly chose a polka band instead. James is survived by his son, George; daughter, Pamela; daughter-in-law, Stacy; grandchildren Ryan, Jessica, J.R., Sean, Scott, and Jill; and great granddaughter, Addyson Kate; brothers, Robert, William, and John Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, and sister, Bessie. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 beginning at 2:00PM at Holy Cross Cemetery.
