Sheryl Kathleen Cook, age 55, passed away on November 11, 2011. Sheryl was born in Whittier, California on September 30, 1956. She is the second child of WD “Dub” and Woodene Evans. Sheryl’s father moved the family to the Spokane area in 1966. Sheryl graduated from Riverside High School in 1974. She married her high school sweetheart Rick Cook and, together for thirty five years, they raised three children, Keith, Somer and Alisha. After two long years in Anchorage, Alaska, where Rick’s job took them, they returned to the Inland Northwest and built their family home in the Deer Park area near her parent’s homestead. One of Sheryl’s great joys was gardening. She spent countless hours tending her flowers and gardens, and her kids were frequently conscripted into involuntary yard work. Sheryl enjoyed entertaining. She frequently catered weddings and parties at their beautiful country home. Sheryl had a long career with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office at the Spokane County Jail where she achieved the rank of sergeant. Many of her friends were co-workers from the jail. Sheryl also loved to travel. She enjoyed family vacations in Mexico, and after her children were raised, frequently traveled around the country to visit friends and relatives. Sheryl was a caring and generous human being who helped others and was loved by many. She had several lifelong friends who helped care for her near the end of her life. The family sincerely appreciates all the help given Sheryl during this challenging and difficult time. Sheryl loved to laugh and she enjoyed a deep sense of irony. She was the life of the party. She will be missed. Sheryl is survived by Rick Cook, three children, Keith Cook, Somer Cook Acton and Alisha Cook, and four grandchildren, Ashley, Jocelyn and Brody Cook and Morgan Acton, three nephews, Joe Evans, Aaron Evans and Antonio Mantese, and one niece, Theresa Mantese. Sheryl is also survived by two siblings, Cynthia Evans Mantese and WD “Dub” Evans Jr. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16th, 2011 at 2 PM, at The Church of the Nazarene, located at 9004 North Country Homes Blvd, Spokane, WA 99218.
