Margaret M. (Whistler) Baumann Margaret went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday morning, January 2, 2012. She was born Margaret Whistler in Elk City, Kansas on October 29, 1919 to Robert and Maude Whistler. She grew up in Elk City, graduated from Elk City High School and later moved Independence Kansas. She married Martin A. Baumann on February 14, 1943. Her husband was a Missouri Synod Lutheran Pastor and she served with him in Olpe, Kansas, Garber and Guymon, Oklahoma, Helena, Montana and Spokane, Washington. They were married 51 years. Always active in church activities, she was most recently a member of Holy Cross Lutheran in Spokane where her husband had served. She was very active with the Lutheran Business and Professional Women, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the quilters at Holy Cross. She is survived by her five children, Steve and (Cindy) Baumann, Beverly and (Don) Hackbarth, Kay and (Dennis) Whistler, Marty and (Rebecca) Baumann and Karla and (Tom) Sherry; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister, Gladys and John Fienen of Dallas, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband preceded her in death in 1994. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial Going Home Service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7307 N. Nevada on Saturday, January 7th at 3:00PM. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church building fund or to Spokane Hospice House.
