Henry “Hank” W. VanWey(age 92) entered into rest on April 14, 2012 in Spokane, WA. Hank was born on December 25, 1919 in Protection, KS to parents Irtles, and Averil VanWey. He attended high school in Rosalia, Kansas graduating in 1938. Hank served his country proudly in the Pacific Theater during WWII, as an E-4 Forward Observer in the U.S. Army, receiving three bronze stars. He married his loving wife of 58 years in 1946, Helen, and together they moved to Washington to raise their family. He worked for many years in insurance sales for Prudential Insurance Co. retiring in 1978. He was an active member of VFW Post 51 and North Hill Christian Church. Hank spent over 10 years as the campground host at Lake Gillette. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shop crafts, and volunteering at the VA, the VFW and his church. He is survived by his sons, Daryl (Lillian) of Oak Harbor, WA, Craig (Sylvia) of Snohomish, WA, and Tim (Denise) of Tacoma, WA; daughter-in-law, Beverly VanWey; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Hank was preceded in death by his mother, Averil and his son, Kevin. Graveside service will begin at 12 Noon on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a 1:00PM Memorial Service at North Hill Christian Church 4620 N. Post in Spokane.
