Richard A. Shaw

Richard “Dick” Shaw Richard Shaw passed away April 22, 2012 surrounded by friends and family. Dick grew up in Billings Montana. When he was ten, his family moved to Spokane. He attended Westview Elementary, Salk Middle School, and Shadle Park High School where he was a champion wrestler. He attended SFCC where he played football, and started his relationship with his wife who he met his senior year of high school. Dick graduated from EWU with a degree in sociology. He served in the Army in Vietnam and later joined the Air Force Reserves with the 141st at Fairchild after completing Officer’s Candidate School. While completing his studies in law enforcement, Dick worked for the Juvenile court as a probation officer. He then worked for Spokane Public Schools as a Resource Officer for 23 years. He retired in September of 2011. He loved his school kids and helped many to succeed. Often Dick would be at the grocery store or a gas station and have someone stop him to say “Officer Shaw, remember me? You changed my life”. Dick is survived by his wife of 40 years, Francine; His son Ross and his wife Sheri, His son Paul and his wife Leeann and his son Josh; His beloved grandchildren, Delaney, Molly and Dillon; his sisters Sue Etter and husband Mike Etter and Nancy Shaw, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews . If you wish to make a donation in his name, Dick’s favorite charities were Shriners Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and Hospice. Dick’s memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28th, 10:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Center in the Lincoln Ballroom: 1316 North Lincoln Street Spokane, WA 99201. Inurnment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. It is impossible to sum up this wonderful man’s life here, but it is good to know his kindness and love will live on in those whose lives he touched.
