Shirley Marie Erickson

November 8, 1930 — March 24, 2013

Shirley Marie (Kelley) Erickson (Age: 82) Went to Heaven on Sunday, March 24. Mom lived her childhood years in Deer Park, Washington. In 1948, at age 17, she married Ray Erickson (dec’d 2010) and lived the rest of her life in Spokane. Mom and Dad were married 62 years and had five children: Terry (Gene) Syms, Mary Ann Luce (dec'd 2002), Ray (Patty) Erickson, Randy (Diana) Erickson, and Gary Erickson (dec'd 2008). They had seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The "Wee Ones" always made Gramma and Grampa smile with joy. Mom was one of seven children and is survived by her sisters, Colleene (Martin) Klasen of Spokane and Kitty Crowley of Torrance, California, and her brother Donald (Gloria) Kelley of Spokane. Also survived by dear friend and sister-in-law Ferne (Jim) Baker of Deer Park. Mom had five children in seven years, starting at the age of 17. How she took care of us all, worked various jobs, and kept the house and us always spotless is a wonder! Mom was always a caregiver to anyone who needed advice or a little help. She continued to do so throughout her entire life to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, and was a confidant to more persons than can be counted. Despite her failing health, her first question was always about “how are my kids doing and are we happy.” The loss of our sister, brother, and then our Dad caused Mom to grieve immeasurably. But, nonetheless, she fought a fierce battle to be with us as long as she could. One of her greatest joys was singing us kids to sleep with the Irish lullaby – Tura Lura Lura. Being Irish and a redhead … it was certainly fitting. How she loved to sing and what a sweet voice she had. We will hear that voice for the rest of our lives. She is now in Heaven singing with the Angels. In fact, knowing Mom, she is probably leading the choir. Memorial contributions may be made to Royal Park Care Center or your own special charity. The family will be holding a private memorial at a later date. A special thanks to the incredible staff of Royal Park for the warmth and care they provided to Mom, to Dad, and to our entire family. We were so fortunate to have the loving people at Royal Park as “part of our lives” for many years. God bless each of them – too many to name. Mom . . . Dad and you can now hold hands again in Heaven and Mary Ann and Gary will be beside you, as well as Heidi Dog. We will love you forever and ever, Mom. And, keep on singing … we will hear you and smile! Your “Wee Ones.”
