Nettie B. Clark

CLARK, Janet Beryl “Nettie B.”(Wynecoop) (age 97)- Entered into rest on April 25, 2013 in Spokane, WA. Nettie was the youngest of nine children born to John Curtis Wynecoop and Nancy Marion (Perkins) Wynecoop in Wellpinit, WA. She was the great-granddaughter of Arrow Lakes (Sinixt)/Colville Indians Able-One (Seepetza), and Shadow-Top (Kee-Kee-Tum-Nouskeen), a tribal chief. She was an enrolled member of the Spokane Tribe of Indians. Nettie left Wellpinit at age 17 to attend nurse's training on the Navajo Reservation where she became fluent in the Navajo language. She was a registered nurse and practiced in Spokane hospitals. In 1941, she married the love of her life, Charles Clark. They were blessed with two fine sons, Richard Harlow and Donald Charles. In an effort to record the flavor and document an important way of life, Nettie compiled the Indian stories and words of her mother's and grandmother's memories. With assistance from Bernice Wynecoop Wendlandt, Kaye Perkins Hale, and Audrey Wendlandt Turner, Nettie published the book, In The Stream-An Indian Story. She is survived by her husband, Charles, at home in Spokane; sons, Richard “Ric” H. Clark of Honolulu, Hawaii and Donald C. Clark and wife, Marla, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Ellen Bacheller of Muskegon, MI; grandchildren, Kelli Clark of Sacramento, CA, Aaron Clark (Roberta) of Albuquerque, NM, Tim Clark of Nashville, TN, and Chris Clark (Maja) of Honolulu, HI; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, Jessica, Laura, and Samantha; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including niece, Audrey Turner of Spokane. Memorial service for family and friends will take place on Friday, May 17th, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, Spokane, WA.
