Donald R. Ely (Age 87) Don lost his six year fight with multiple myeloma cancer on January 2, 2014. Don was born July 14, 1926 in Spokane to Jess and Lucy Ely. Don was a World War II Army combat veteran serving in the South Pacific. Don was a very hard working man with a great sense of humor. He spent most of his life farming and raising cattle in the Dartford area and also doing dozer work and running his dump truck. He also drove school bus for the Mead School District. Don is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Don S. and Kate Ely of Chewelah; daughter, Janell and Bob Schultz of Tucson, AZ; son, Dan Ely of Spokane; grandchildren, Mike, Sam, Tim, Ben, Ethan, and Madison; and four great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elmer Ely, and sister, Dorothy Bridges. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Leroy Byrd, Dr. Chaudhry, Dr. Henneberry, Dr. Laing, and all the nurses and staff at each of their offices for their wonderful care and kindness through the years. If you wish, memorials may be given to Hospice of Spokane in appreciation for the wonderful care he received at Hospice House in his final days. A Don’s request, there will be no funeral service.
