Elizabeth I. Barkley Reynolds “Liz” October 14, 1921 – September 5, 2014 Born October 14, 1921 in Ellwood City, PA to parents Oran and Irene (Galvin) Barkley. Liz graduated from Lincoln High in 1939 and then attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College where she met and married George Stitzinger. They had two children, Gary Wayne and Lynne Barkley (Missy). They moved to California in 1952. Later divorced, she went to business school and started her secretarial career. Liz married Richard Reynolds in 1956 and moved to the Spokane Valley in 1957, where she began working for Modern Electric followed by Kaiser Trentwood DMR. Following a divorce, she continued her long held passion for music by joining the Sweet Adelines in 1964 which continued until this last spring when she was feted for her 50 years of membership. She sang Bass in various quartets, octets, and choruses and was always there to write show scripts, mc dialogue, parodies, and chorus newsletters. Liz spent 14 years in Las Vegas with friend and companion Eddie Murphy (former Spokane Indians player) singing and working various jobs from the Atomic Energy Commission, local TV stations, to working on a former Nevada Senators campaign. Returning to Spokane, she traveled extensively to contests (5 International) and a Spirit 2000 tour of England and Ireland with a NW Chorus of 120+ members. Enjoying that tour so much, mother and daughter returned for a 7 country European tour. Liz was also fortunate enough to cruise the South Pacific with her parents and sister, Phyllis for six weeks. “Mom” as she was known to her countless friends, was preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Irene Barkley; her sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and John Kahle of Liberty Lake. She is survived by her son, Gary Stitzinger of Hailey, ID; daughter, Lynne (Missy) and Richard Hubbard; grandsons, Anthony Crone, Drew and Carolyn Rhimer; and beloved great grandson, Oran Rhimer of Clear Lake; cousins, Connie and Wilson Conaway of Liberty Lake; and our many “adopted” sisters and brothers. A special thanks to all those who cared for our Mother at Valley Hospital, St. Luke’s Rehab, and Royal Park Care Center. Private urn placement with a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
