Areta May Holms (age 89)Areta May Holms was born in Spokane on October 5, 1924 to Duffle David and Winifred (Barnes) Haworth, their only child. She passed away September 11, 2014 in Salem Oregon where she lived the past two years.Areta graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1941. She was active in Rainbow Girls and served as a state officer and Worthy Matron. Areta married Richard Clayton Holms on November 25, 1944 in Spokane. She worked all her life as a valued employee, ending with many years at Roundup Wholesale Grocery in the accounting department. Areta loved to crochet and knit and supplied many family, friends, and strangers with slippers, sweaters, and afghans. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing the piano. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, attending many events to show her support. After retirement she thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle with her friends.Areta was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Dana); son, Bruce (Theone); 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.A funeral will be held in the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park on Friday September 19th at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
