LeRoy Dennis Blowers (age 67) LeRoy passed away peacefully on November 10, 2014, at the Community Living Center in the Mann Grandstaff Veteran's Medical Center. He was born December 16, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska to Roy William and Leontine Blowers. After graduating from high school in 1966, LeRoy enlisted in the Air Force and he specialized in aircraft mechanics. He was proud of his service to his country. He served in Vietnam during the war and was stationed in Germany, Okinawa, and several bases throughout the US. After 25 years, LeRoy retired from Fairchild AFB as a MSGT in 1991. He then enrolled at Spokane Community College and earned his AAS in carpentry. LeRoy married his first wife, Theresa Brosky in 1968. She passed away from terminal cancer 1993. In 1994, LeRoy met Virginia Ellifritt at a square dance. He was smitten with her and won his way into her heart. Little did he know that he would also become "Daddy LeRoy" to her two daughters. LeRoy loved taking Virginia, their dog Bandit and their grandson Mikel on trips to different states in their motorhome. When his health began to deteriorate, they parked their motorhome at Little Diamond during the summers. LeRoy enjoyed sitting by the campfire with Bandit talking with his friends Leon, Sharon, Christy and John. LeRoy was a kind, loving man who was always willing to help anyone. He never complained and found joy in the simple things in life. He loved to fish and taught his nephews, Kenny and Kyle, how to fish using crickets. He relished his coffee and looked forward to going out to breakfast for his "ham and cheese" with his son-in-law Randy, neighbor Helen, or anyone who would go. LeRoy enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching rafters and kayakers floating down the Spokane River or spotting hawks and eagles. His happiest day was the day Virginia agreed to marry him. All he could say was, "I am so happy! I finally have my family!" LeRoy was a member of the Dancing Shadows Square Dance Club and 1000 Trails. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Verla and Tami; and his first wife, Theresa. Survivors include his wife and companion of 20 years Virginia; daughters LeAnn (Randy) and Michele (Glen); grandchildren Mikel (Holly) and MaKenzie; sisters Chris (Tim), Sandy; brother David; sisters-in-law Pat (Dawn) Jeanette (Steve) and Donna; brother-in-law Marvin; Uncle Dan and Aunt Jean; several cousins, nephews and nieces. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Mann Grandstaff Veteran's Medical Center's ICU team and medical team in the Community Living Center for the compassionate and loving care they provided to LeRoy these past few months. A Celebration of LeRoy's life will be held at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 4305 N. DIVISION, SPOKANE, WA on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made on Leroy's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or www.woundedwarrior.org.
