John T Chambers

John T. Chambers Good and faithful husband, loving father and friend to many, John was called to be with his Lord on November 16, 2014 in a peaceful setting in Loon Lake, Washington, overlooking Deer Lake. Born July 7, 1925 in Danville, Illinois to Lucye E. Chambers (Scroggy) and William M. Chambers. He was the only child of this blessed union. John went to Danville High School and then enlisted in the Navy. His destroyer escort was sunk by a Japanese Kamikaze in the South Pacific. He returned and went to University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois graduating there with his Bachelor’s degree. John married Marcella Anne Varney on February 14, 1951. John was a lifer at Whirlpool, working at the St. Joseph, Michigan and Marion, Ohio Laundry Groups as a budget manager. He retired in St. Joseph in 1981 after 35 years at Whirlpool and he and his lovely wife Marcie Anne began a prompt and successful retirement in Green Valley, Arizona. They relocated to the north part of Tucson for 5 years before returning to Green Valley. In Green Valley, John was an active member of the Catholic Church, serving many years in The Knights of Columbus(for whom he served in St. Joseph, Michigan as well), attaining the rank of Grand Knight, and with the Kiwanis Group in Green Valley, serving many officer positions, including President. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marcella Anne Chambers (Varney); two children, Jeffrey (JC) and his wife Beth(Butler) of Loon Lake, Washington and Mary Lynn Tomalis and her husband, John, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The senior Mr. Chambers is survived by 4 grand children; Amber Demus of Mead, Washington, Steven Chambers of Puyallup, Washington, Rhiannon Davis of El Paso, Texas, and Jason Chambers of Castro Valley, California; and 8 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held December 4th, 2014 by Father Jeff Lewis at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chewelah, WA.
