JACK ALAN LUHER (88) Jack passed to his Heavenly Home in his sleep on FEBRUARY 16, 2015, leaving his beloved wife, Madaline, at their home in Spokane; Sons, Alan (Gaylen) of Sun City West, AZ, John (Bobbi) of Spokane and Daughter, Jeannette VanTassel (David) of Canby, OR; Grand Sons. Gavin (Leah) of Germany, Austin (Crystal) of West Point, NY and Brandon VanTassel of Canby,OR; Great Grand Daughters, Addison, Brooklyn and Great Grand Son Eugene. Also Brother Floyd of Los Alamitos,CA. and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His Mother Elsie, Father Herbert, and Sister-in-Law Muriel preceded him in death. Jack was born in Odessa, Washington in 1926, moving several times following his father’s employment. He completed grade school at Longfellow Grade School in Spokane. His family then moved to Pullman in 1934, where he graduated from Pullman High School, lettering in three sports. The day after graduating, he joined the Navy and was sent to Farragut immediately, for Boot Camp, then on to several places, one being Guam, until 1946, when he was Honorably Discharged. Jack returned home to Pullman where he spent two years at Washington State University, belonging to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In 1959, he met Madaline and married his “Love of his Life”.] He is a 50 year and Life Member of the Elks Lodge, Honorary Past Master of North Hill Masonic Lodge #210, belonged to the Scottish Rite Bodies and the El Katif Shrine. He was very involved with the Masonic Lodge, earning many, many awards. He received the Active Legion of Honor by the Order of DeMolay in 2010. He belonged and held offices in the North Spokane Shrine Club, Silver Wings, and was President of the North Hill Masonic Temple Board. He also volunteered for many years at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, in Medical Records. Jack was also an avid bowler and golfer, winning many tournaments and trophies along the way. He held offices in his bowling leagues and in his golfing leagues, being very active for so many years. He and son John were the first father & son holding the Wandermere Men’s Club Presidency. Jack and Madaline made many golfing and bowling trips, went on a golfing cruise to the Bahamas and travelled a lot. Jack worked in the floor covering business, installing and estimating, also in carpentering, remodeling and building houses. He was also involved in building boats. He was a “jack of all trades” and everything he did, he did well. If anybody needed a job done, he was there to do it. In March 2009, Madaline found Jack on the floor in the kitchen with the back door open and was rushed to the hospital and found a big concussion with bleeders. From then on Short Term Memory set in and he started going downhill. In February, 2013 it was necessary to put him in the Northpointe Dementia Facility but was moved in April, 2013 to North Central Care & Rehab Center where he remained until God took him away. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Jack in the North Central Care Center. The exceptional love and care they gave Jack and Madaline, will always be remembered. A Memorial Service will be held on February 26, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the Riplinger Funeral Home, North 4305 Division. Spokane WA 99207. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
