SMILEY, Jack C. Born: September 7, 1933 – Died: April 17, 2015 Jack was a Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Husband, Father and Father-in-law, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Jack was born in his grandfather’s house on the lower South Hill in Spokane, WA. At age 17, he started work with the railroad as a “Gandy Dancer” before being drafted into the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. After returning to the states Jack went to work in construction with his father. He joined the Carpenter’s Union in 1957, rising to foreman before retiring from Bouten Construction in 1989 with many letters of accommodation. After retirement, he enjoyed many road trips to Reno, NV with friends and relatives. Jack also spent much time at the “Farm” entertaining friends and relatives. He was a member of the VFW Post 5924 in Elk, WA and was a true patriot to the end.Jack was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ida E.; sons, Robert O. (Charlene) and Dennis E.; daughter, Leann J.; sisters, Ada Peterson, Grace Lynn Harshman and Florence Foutz; grandchildren, Cory O. and Misty A. Smiley and Ami Cass (Cy); and three great grandchildren, Calli Cass, Caison Cass and Mateo Baca; and best friend, Randy Toner. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or VFW Post 5924. A Celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 3:30 pm at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 4305 N. DIVISION, SPOKANE, WA.
