OLSEN, Fredrick “Fred” L. He worked on produce and cattle farms in his youth  and at flour mills  in Davenport and Spokane as a young man.    Fred hauled milk in the Spokane area for approximately 10 years.  In 1961 he started working for Whitworth University as a carpenter and he retired in 1991.    Fred belonged, volunteered and served on the advisory Board for the Hillyard Senior Center for over 20 years. He also belonged and served on the Board of the Green Bluff Grange for over 40 years.   Fred was in the 92nd Engineers wing of the U.S. Army from 1941 thru 1946 and served in World War II.  Fred enjoyed to work with wood aand created many amazing products such as lawn ornaments, frames for pictures, tin men from the wizard of ox…  In his retirement years Fred enjoyed putting Thomas Kinkaid puzzles together, doing word search puzzles, talking to people. He was a very approachable man loved by many.    His wife Mildred Rummer, his father, mother, sister and brothers, preceded Fred in death   Fred passed away unexpectedly on April 23, 2015 at Holy Family Hospital at the age of 97.   Fred is survived by his wife Dorothy Smith/Olsen,  eight step children:       Steve(Patty) Smith, Brenda (Dave) Knobloch, Stan (Mary) Smith, Rick Smith, Stan (Jan) Rummer, Leroy(Sue) Rummer, Allen(Carol) Rummer, Marian Schlaht and many grand children and great grandchildren.  One grandchild enjoyed having the same birthdate (Month/Day).   Fred was blessed in his life and was the kindest person you would ever meet.  Reminded me daily of how an angel would be on earth.  He will truly be missed but without a doubt will be seen again in heaven.  God Bless.   Viewing is available on 4/29/15 and 4/30/15, between 9AM and 5PM,  at Riplinger Funeral Home in Spokane, Washington.
