Rev. J. Weaver Hess

HESS, John Weaver - Passed away peacefully on September 28th in Spokane, Washington. Weaver was born in Bloomington, Nebraska, on March 1, 1923, to John H. and Naomi A. Hess. His family moved to La Palma, Arizona in 1925, and to Orange, California, in 1934. He attended Azusa College before moving to San Anselmo, California, in 1955 where he attended the San Francisco Theological Seminary and then began his ministerial career. In 1962, he founded Grace Presbyterian Church in Sacramento, California. From 1981 to 1987, he served as faculty and was ordained at Unity School of Christianity in Kansas City, Missouri. He later served with his wife, Thora, as interim Unity ministers throughout the western United States. He and Thora settled in Spokane in 1992. He was preceded in death by his wife Thora Hess, his son Roger Hess, and his stepson Tim Hill. He is survived by his and Thora’s children, Darrel Hess, and Sally, Greg and Drew Hill, and grandchildren Daniel Hess, Natasha Hein, Stephen Britton, Layla Lewis, and Josh Zumwalt, and great-grandchildren Chloe and Frankie Britton, Karley and Peyton Lewis, and Madeline and Margot Zumwalt. A celebration of his life will take place on Sunday, November 1st, at the Unity Spiritual Center, 2900 S. Bernard St., Spokane, WA at 2:00 p.m.
