McBride, Lewis J. Jr. (Lew) Lew died April 14, 2009 after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Spokane, WA to Lillian Swanson and Lewis McBride, Sr. on April 6, 1926. After graduating from Rogers High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps serving from 1943 – 1945. He met his future wife, Leora, at Pattison’s Roller Rink and they had 62 years, 8 months together. Lew worked at the Carnation Co. in Spokane as the supervisor of the Milk Department and later transferred with the company to the Clarkston/Lewiston area before returning to Spokane in 1962. Lew managed the IGA store on Indian Trail and later owned a used car lot on Francis. He was a Rotary Club member, loved skiing, traveling, golf and gardening. From his mother he received his love of flowers and plants creating a beautiful back yard that included 121 potted plants surrounding the swimming pool. His first car was a 1938-9 Ford Coupe with fender skirts and a continental kit. Friends will recall his fondness for his 1962 black Ford Thunderbird. Lew was patient with and enjoyed having children around. He loved dogs and little Sammi was his constant companion in his later years. Lew’s wife, Leora, died January 15th of this year. A joint Memorial Service will be held for Lew and Leora, Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 11:00AM at Peone Prairie Cemetery. His two sons, Dan Lewis and Chris Lee; a brother, Dick; and a sister, Gloria are deceased. A sister, Helen Robinson, Napa, CA survives him, also numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
