John A. Skok

SKOK, John A. (Age 92) Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 at Riplinger Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 3624 W. Indian Trail Rd., Spokane, WA. Burial will be in the Jump Off Joe Cemetery near Valley, WA. Mr. Skok, who was born on May 16, 1916 at Jump Off, near Valley, WA; passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2009. He was the 5th of 15 children. After serving in the Army in WWII, he returned home and married Regina E. Bosse in 1946. He worked for the Federal Land Bank and then became Postmaster at the Valley Post Office. He was Postmaster for over 25 years, retiring in 1982. He spent the last 16 years of his life in Spokane. Survivors include five daughters, Carolyn (Dennis) McCanna and Mary (Tom) McArthur, both of Spokane, Arlene (Lorne) Lockwood of Paradise, Newfoundland, Connie (Andy) Boyle of Ninilchik, Alaska, and Christine (Neal) Wooden of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Gary (Sue) Skok of Chewelah, Wash., and Joe Skok of San Jose, Calif; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his sisters Mamie Johnson and Helen Kreutz of Spokane, and Betty White of San Diego, and brothers Fr. Charles of Spokane, Philip of Chewelah, and Nick of Valley. Mr. Skok is preceded in death by his wife, Regina E. (Bosse) Skok and siblings Agnes Hurbi, Willa Chitwood, Sister Anne Skok, Louis, Joe, Jasper, Peter and Frank.
