Ben passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, June 5th. He was born on July 24, 1938 in Spokane, Washington to Gertrude and Roy Benway. He attended Rogers High School until he joined the United States Army in 1957 where he served as a Military Policeman. While stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ, he met the love of his life, Betty Griffin and they were married May 10, 1961. They had 3 children, Dwayne, Sheri and Gary and subsequently moved to Spokane in 1965. He hired on at Kaiser Aluminum Mead Works in 1966 and retired in 1996. Ben enjoyed remodeling the home numerous times and working on all his woodworking projects. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ben is survived by his loving wife, Betty, of 55 years; his son, Dwayne of Unadilla, GA; his daughter Sheri West of Spokane; his grandchildren Elizabeth (Karl) Kohler, Rebecca West, Nicholas West, Chris (Ashley) West; his great-grandchildren Dallas West-Stein, Kaitlyn and Kamden Kohler and Easton West; his sister Bobbi Ann (Elton) Clark and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben is preceded in death by his youngest son, Gary; his mother and father; brothers William, Kenneth and Joe; and his sister Dorothy. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 4305 N. DIVISION, SPOKANE, WA. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N.
