This week we celebrate the life of Vern R. Broadwell who peacefully passed on July 23rd. Vern was born July 29, 1919 to Charles & Nellie Broadwell. He was predeceased by his wife Betty of 66 years and is survived by his daughter Yvette Dunlap and two sons, Brad and Jon Broadwell. Grandchildren include Rick Harshman, Erica and Jeff Broadwell and three step grandchildren Derek Lynch, and Allyson and Scott Dunlap. Vern attended North Central HS and graduated from WSU with two degrees. He was a World War II veteran who participated in the Normandy invasion. Upon discharge he taught Wood Shop, Metal Shop and Mechanical Drawing at North Central HS for 32 years as well as serving as Department Head. He was skilled craftsman who built numerous custom homes throughout his life. Vern enjoyed bird hunting, spending time at the lake, and boating. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday August 5, 2009 at 3:00 pm Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend a day in celebrating his life. A reception will follow at Brad Broadwell’s house.
