Mordecai (Morrie) Zavala Lopez of Spokane, WA age 85 passed away Saturday February 11th 2017 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah from a traumatic brain injury. He goes to join his wife Anna Marie in glory, who preceded him two years prior on January 29th 2015. He leaves 2 sons and 2 daughters (Victoria Balmes, Mark Lopez, Michele Caudill, and Michael Lopez), 13 grandchildren (Matt & Eric Balmes, Danna Campo, Nate & Danny Lopez, Stephanie Olson, Rachel Yonago, Jeremy, Nikayla, & Taylor Caudill, Alexandra Lopez, Mariana & Anita Thompson), 9 great grandchildren (Cheyenne & Ryelan Balmes, Halle Rae, Brooklyn, & Gracelynn Campo, Jacob & Leah Lopez, Benjamin Olson, and baby Lopez due in May). Morrie was born in Hungerford, TX on 8/19/1931 to Ismael and Carmen Lopez; the 4th of 7 children. The family eventually settled in Galveston, where Morrie graduated in 1950 from Ball High School. Shortly after, he moved to Spokane, where he started working at Sacred Heart Medical Center. He eventually became an x-ray tech and retired from SHMC in 1996. He continued to work as an x-ray tech on-call for Benewah Medical Center in Plummer, ID. Morrie & Anna Marie were married in 1957 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. He was an avid skier, loved traveling, landscaping and was a faithful member of Valley Assembly of God Church. His greatest joy was his family, whether here in Spokane or elsewhere, which gave him another excuse to travel. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Valley Assembly of God at 15618 E. Broadway, Spokane Valley, WA 99037.
