Delight C. Plotts

August 5, 1911 — August 22, 2009

In loving memory of Delight Plotts, 98, who has passed peacefully into God’s hands. She was born August 5, 1911 northeast of Hampton, Nebraska to Fred and Dora Christiansen. She graduated from Hampton High School and completed one year at Fremont College. In 1930 Delight boarded the train from Hampton destined for Spokane where she would marry her high school sweetheart, Leland Plotts, who was employed in Wenatchee, Washington. They remained in Wenatchee until 1936 then relocated to Spokane. From 1943 to 1953 the couple, with their two daughters, Janelle and Janice, lived in Ephrata, Washington where Leland owned the Plotts Funeral Home. Leland retired from the funeral business and returned to Spokane. Here he built homes between 1955 and 1974. Delight worked tirelessly alongside her husband in Ephrata and in Spokane. She sold Avon products in Spokane. They enjoyed traveling south in the winter and fishing in various Washington lakes in the summer. A beautiful sunset soothed Delight’s soul as well as tending her hillside garden when she was able. Indoors she enjoyed needlework and various crafts and was very good with detail work. She was ingenious in creating something from whatever was on hand – a master recycler, ahead of her time! She was a wonderful, loving mother who guided and advised more by example and deed than she did by word. Rarely was a negative word spoken. She was a devoted Christian and kind soul whose faith never wavered. All who knew her would comment that she lived true to her name – a Delight. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leland E. Plotts and daughter, Janelle Delight Paul, her parents and sister, Mildred Wall. Surviving family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Tom Carmody of Ventura, California. Also left to cherish her memory are seven grandchildren: Michael, Tim, and Todd Carmody, Christine (Carmody) Ball, Mark, Brad, and Dean Paul, and six great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. in the Resident Chapel at Riverview Care Center, 1841 E. Upriver Dr., Spokane, WA 99207. A private burial service will precede with Delight being laid to rest next to her beloved Leland, at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Donations in Delight's name may be made to Hospice of Spokane,POB 2215, Spokane, WA 99210, or to the charity of donor's choice.
