Patrick Francis King was unexpectedly taken into heaven on May 22nd, at the age of 90. Pat was born on February 10th, 1927 in Spokane Washington. He was the oldest of 3 children, of Cyril J King and Mary Frances Schmitz King. Pat attended St. Aloysius Catholic grade school; then attending Gonzaga High School, which is presently known as Gonzaga Preparatory High School. Pat excelled in school and was valedictorian of his graduating class of 1944. Pat then joined Bishop White Seminary to become a priest, but elected to take a different path before his final vows. Pat was a true "back to nature" enthusiast, enjoying many facets of the great outdoors. This included: boating, mountain climbing/hiking, snow skiing and water skiing, which he continued into his late 80's. He was very involved in the Sierra Club, having pictures of him climbing mountains around the world, including: Mount Rainier, Half Dome in Yosemite, Machu Picchu in Peru and the Swiss Alps. Pat owned a ski boat and taught many relatives to water ski. He always showed up at family vacations, ready to take everyone for ski rides. Pat moved to California in the early 50's and lived there until 2013. He worked as an auditor for the State of California in the Cities of Fresno and Marina Del Ray for over 40 years. Pat was a confirmed bachelor, but never forgot his Spokane roots. Pat took great pride in his education and monetarily made it possible for his nieces and nephews to attend Gonzaga Prep, so they could get the same private education as many of his past relatives. This was a gracious and selfless gift for his family and very appreciated. It also allowed 4 generations of the King family to attend Gonzaga Prep, the youngest graduated in 2006. Pat was preceded in death, by his father Cyril, mother Mary Frances, step mothers, Rose Falkenreck King and Katherine King, and brother Regis King in 2012. Pat is survived in Spokane by his only sister, Marita Dunn, and her children: Mike, Colleen (Mike), Kevin and Patrick. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Rose Marie Hillyard, and her children: Elaine, Rexanne (Mike), Daniel (Karen), Christopher, Patricia, Tony (Kathie), and Susan (Tim). Pat also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles from big extended families. The family would like to acknowledge Tony and Kathie King for their loyalty to Pat over all these years and helping him move back to Spokane. We would also like to thank our mother, Rose Marie, for including Pat in our lives, from young children into adulthood. We greatly appreciate Emile Court Assisted Living, for taking special care of Pat for the past 4 years. Any donations can be sent to your charity of choice or the Jesuit Society. Thank You!! Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Aloysius Church at 330 E. Boone Ave., Spokane, WA.
