Cathy was born December 20, 1975 in Hale Center, Texas to David and Carolyn Cummins. The family moved to Kingman, Arizona, when Cathy was 2. After her parents divorced, Cathy (8) , her brother, Jonathan(4), and their mother, Carolyn, moved to Spokane. She attended Longfellow Elementary School, where she started her music career, playing clarinet in the band, All City advanced band and singing in the choir. After her mother married Kay Kempe, Cathy attended Northwood Middle School and Mead High School graduating in 1994. She was acknowledged as a Spokane Scholar in the Arts area. She went on to attend Whitworth University, graduating with a degree in Music Education, certified for K-12, in 1998. Catherine’s passion was playing and singing for church worship services, for the past 25 years and teaching music. She instructed general music and band in La Pine, OR for 3 years, and then in Phoenix area from 2002 through 2014, teaching band (5th-8th grade), and private piano and clarinet lessons. She was a music specialist in the Spokane Schools District 81 for the past 2 ½ years. Catherine was currently finishing her Masters of Music, through Kent University, Columbus, Ohio. Cathy was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2006, which returned aggressively in 2015. After 2 ½ years of more extensive surgery, radiation, and different chemotherapy treatments, her body developed severe infections, which were not to be overcome. Cathy left this world on June 27th, 2017. She is survived by her husband of 12 years Patrick; her special son, Matthew ( 5 ½); her mother Carolyn (Kay) Kempe, Spokane, WA; father David (Jolene) Cummins, Phoenix, AZ; brother Jonathan (JD) (Irina) Cummins Severn, MD; Stepbrothers Keith(Tina) and Kevin (Natalie) Kempe, Spokane, WA area; Travis Warring, Kingman, AZ; Stepsister Rachelle (Ben)Sanchez, Phoenix, AZ; and nieces, Isabelle, Tara, Lindsey, Anastasia, and Madelyn; Nephews Tristan, Dylan, Devin, Andrew, Eli; and Great Nephews Blake and Ashton, many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins and multiple friends. She was preceded in death by her Aunt Helen (Don) Bailey, maternal grandparents, Bill and Grace Burrough, Spokane and paternal grandparents, Jerry and Margaret Cummins, Buckeye, AZ. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 1st at 11 am at Westgate Christian Church, 7111 N Nine Mile Rd, Spokane, WA 99208. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund for her son, Matthew C.
