Gerling, Alden R. (age 81) entered peacefully into rest on September 22, 2009. Alden was a gentle spirit born on July 23, 1928 in Waverly, WA to parents George W. and Cora A. Gerling. He was home schooled and received most of his education listening to Standard of California on the family radio. A lifelong resident of Spokane, Alden worked for over 30 years at the Saint Vincent DePaul, where he made telephone calls for the company. Alden enjoyed listening to talking books, music, politics, played the spoons and loved to entertain. He was a member of the United Blind and served as president for several years. He married Marlys Powell in 2001. He is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Marlys; his sister June of Otis Orchards; sister in-law, Linda Joy of Otis Orchards; brother in-law, Jim Powell of Airway Heights;numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - Evergreen Ward 14111 E. 16th Veradale, WA with interment following the service at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery.
