Russell Elmore, a life long resident of the Spokane area, passed away December 15th, 2017, at the age of 85. A talented musician and songwriter, Russ made music his career. He formed his first band, the Stringdusters, at 17. He taught guitar at Guertin and Ross music store, and then at Hoffman's Music in the '50s and '60s. Russ became a recording artist in the '60s releasing many records on a variety of labels including Decca and Southern United Artists. His biggest nationwide "hit", Black Gold, reached number 10 on the Cash Box Hit Parade. His records are still available for purchase on the internet, and some releases are available to listen on Youtube. Russ also played music locally in his band, Russ Elmore and the Eldorados, for many years. He wrote and sang several jingles for local businesses at Sound Recording Studio in Spokane. His music career ended abruptly when he suffered a major stroke in his 50s. He was no longer able to perform, but kept music as his hobby. Russ Elmore is survived by his family from his first marriage. Two daughters; Russanne Rodstrom and Colleen Stewart; a son, Gardner Elmore; 7 grandchildren; Marisa Castillo, Chris Stewart, Jamen Stewart, Ariene Elmore, Eric Elmore, Ryan Elmore, Chase Elmore; and 3 great grandchildren, Evan Castillo, Bruce Stewart, and Annabelle Stewart. No Public services will be held.
