Mary entered peacefully into rest December 22, 2009 after a three year battle with a debilitating disease. Mary was born in the small town of Platecove on the Island of Newfoundland, Canada September 7, 1930. She was one of eight children born to Stephen and Margaret Keough. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her children; Lyle Cook, Mary Lynn Walker and husband Earl, Shannon Sheppard and husband Patrick, Gail Jones and husband Jeff, Grandchildren; Lori Lynn Cook, Alex Cook, Caitlyn Cook, Byran Pirtle, Christopher Pirtle, Tammi Furlan, Nicky Cook-Desler, David Sheppard, Maria Grondin, Matthew Jones, Stephen Jones and Kaila Jones; as well as 19 Great Grandchildren. Siblings Kay Mitchell, Lucy Moore, Philamine Walch, Mike Keough and Felix Keough. She is preceded in death by her husband Lynn R. Cook, son Donald Cook, parents Stephen and Margaret as well as her brothers John Thomas and William Keough. She married Lynn R. Cook in St. John’s, Newfoundland October 25, 1951 – the love of her life. They lived in Newfoundland Canada until just after the birth of their first child. They spent 20 years in the military where they did extensive traveling, which included living in Germany for three years. After retiring they chose Spokane, Washington to make their home and have lived here since 1971. She loved to walk and read and her true hobby was keeping a clean house, which we all laugh about today as no one could possibly have as many vaccums as our mother. Our hearts are deeply saddened with our loss but we do take comfort in knowing she will be spending Christmas with the love of her life and her son Donald this year. What a legacy you have left us all…you will be missed by many and remembered by all you have touched in your lifetime. She had a strong relationship with God and her Church and we pray that God is with her, keeping her safe and sound until we can all be together again. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29th at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N. Division, Spokane from 9:00am to 6:00pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm, December 29th at St. Charles Catholic Church 4515 N. Alberta, Spokane. Graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery will begin at 1:00 pm December 30th. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Spokane. A very special thank you goes out to Halo House Adult Family Home and all of her caregivers for truly making our mother feel like this were her home. Your kindness and love will be cherished always and we thank God for each and every one of you. Also a very special thank you to Hospice of Spokane – even though our relationship was short, the comforting words and all you did for our mother was a gift and blessing to us all.
