Katherine May Thomas

Katherine M. “Kay” Thomas (age 99) entered into rest on January 12, 2010. She was born on December 2, 1910 in Sidney, Nebraska to parents James and Etta Ellis. She graduated from Boise High School and received her teaching certificate from the College of Idaho, in 1934. Kay married her husband, Dale, in 1939. In 1948, they moved to Spokane where she continued her teaching career. Kay lost her beloved husband of 47 years, Dale, in 1986. She is survived by their daughter, Judith Hill and her partner Mary Hansen of Spokane; foster daughters, Nishat Goodrich of Houston, TX and Stephanie Woodruff of Spokane; grandchildren, Dawn Rhodes in Great Britain, Kathi Garcia of Spokane, and Daniel Hill of St. Albans, VT; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Joy Ellis of Bellingham, WA. Visitation will be Thursday, January 14th from 9:00 to 8:00pm at Riplinger Funeral Home 4305 N. Division Spokane, WA. A “Celebration of Life” will begin at 2:00pm on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Riplinger Funeral Home followed by interment at Fairmount Memorial Park.
