HEISTER, Eugene Allen (age 88) – Entered into rest on March 27th, 2010 in Spokane, Washington, where he had lived for the past 18 years. Born in Six Mile Run, PA, to Elizabeth (Foster) Heister, Gene attended school in Defiance, PA, and graduated from Paulsboro High School, Paulsboro, NJ, in 1938. He served his country earning a Purple Heart as a Sgt. Crew Chief and Gunner with the U.S. Army Air Corp during the Pacific Campaign of WWII. Following the war, Gene completed an apprenticeship program and worked as a Machinist, later being promoted to an Estimator/Planner for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyards retiring in 1980. As a part-time job, he drilled bowling balls for over 30 years. In 1949, he married his sweetheart Jean. She passed away in 1995. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Assoc., the VFW, the Elks, and the Moose. Gene enjoyed bowling, racing Harley Motorcycles flat track, and dancing. He is survived by his sons, Richard of Girardville, PA, and Glenn of Spokane, WA; a daughter, Sandra of Deptford, NJ; grandsons, Paul of Sommers Pt., NJ, Bryen of West Deptford, NJ, and Jeffrey of Woodbury, NJ; a great-grandson, Nicolas of West Deptford, NJ. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott in 2003, and by a grandson, Douglas in 2008. At his request, no service to be held.
