THORNTON, Edna Ann (Age 82) - Born on September 17, 1927 in Wallace, ID to Russell and Laura (Pierce) Carlson. Entered into rest on April 14, 2010 in Spokane, WA. A Spokane area resident since 1960, Edna graduated from Wallace High School in 1945. She later worked as a cashier at Sigmunds Grocery and as a Washington State Liquor Store retailer. Edna married John "Jack" Thornton on December 28, 1947, they were married for 63 happy years. She is survived by son, John Thornton (Nancy); daughter, Laurie Hummell; son, Greg Thornton all of Spokane and son, Jeff Thornton (Sue) of Spokane Valley; sister, Mary McMaster of San Antonio, TX; sister, Peggy McGee of Spokane, WA; brother, Jackie Barton of Willow, Alaska; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and beloved dog, Tom. Preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Thornton, just 73 days earlier; and a brother, "Bud" Carlson. Edna loved spending time at their lake cabin on Waitts Lake. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling with Jack to Haiti, Mexico, Europe, Panama and Figi, just to name a few destinations. Visitation will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N. DIVISION, SPOKANE, WA. Interment to follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
