SWANSON, Alfred Sherman - Passed away August 24, 2010 in Spokane, WA due to age related illnesses at the age of 84. Al was born August 16, 1926 to Axel Bernard and Hazel Ann (Procter) Swanson. He was raised on a farm with his brothers, Don, Carl and a sister Agnes. Al enlisted into the U.S. Air Force were he was a mechanic on the airplanes. After his discharge from the service he went to work with his brothers logging. He met and fell in love and married Ruth Elizabeth Whiteford on September 9, 1949. He changed jobs and went to work for Haughton Elevator, later retiring and went back to logging. Horses were a great passion of Alfred's and it kept his family together. He found other interests as well, snowmobiles, 3 wheelers, fishing and pulling his children and grandchildren waterskiing. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth who passed away in Oct. 12, 2004; beloved son, David Gene; brother, Don; and his favorite horse, Dixie. Al is survived by his brother, Carl Swanson; sister, Agnes Swanson; daughters, Linda Diane Hamp and Jim Kamura and her two children, Vicki and Richard; Sandra Mae Morehouse and husband, Robert and their children, Tami and Lesley; Patricia Ann Sams and husband, Stacy and their children, Kimberly and Amanda; son, Michael Dean and wife, Ronda and their children, Connor and Taylor; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Keith, Dustin, Jacob, Sophia and Christie. He was the best father, grandfather and great grandfather there ever was. All who knew and loved him will miss him greatly. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 1:00 PM at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N. DIVISION, SPOKANE, WA. Interment will follow at the Wayside Cemetery.
