Arlenne (Renne) passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus and her loving family on September 12, 2010. She was born January 12, 1935 to Ernest and Viola Miller and was preceded in death by her brother Ernest and sisters Dorothy, Phyllis, and Beryl. She was a devoted mother to her two sons Dan Hagerman and Randy (Marlene) Hagerman; and, she is survived by three grandchildren. Arlenne lived in the Spokane area and especially enjoyed her later years in the Spokane Valley. She attended North Central H. S. and continued her education at Kinman Business College and beauty school. While employed at Jimmy's Neighborhood Tavern, she was known for the delicious chili she prepared. Later at Clark Equipment Company, she was one of the first women who assembled their Melroe Bobcat Front Loader product. The work was difficult, but she gained the respect of the men as she wielded heavy tools day in and day out without complaint. After it closed in the early 1980's, Arlenne began work at the then nascent ISC Systems Corporation. At ISC, Arlenne progressed from assembler to chief receptionist and handled telephone calls and arranged conference calls throughout the world. She was recognized many times as an outstanding employee. The greatest joy of work, she said, was all the wonderful people she got to meet. When the computerized directory went down Arlenne said not to panic for she had it all memorized. She was known as the voice of Olivetti North America, one of many name iterations ISC took over the years. After two decades, she retired. Her final employ was as a cleaning person with Good Samaritan Retirement Community in Spokane Valley where she enjoyed communing with and caring for the patients. Arlenne may have gotten older, but she was definitely young at heart. She listened to Rod Stewart tunes and other 70's songs, drew wolves and other animals in pen and ink, and played puzzles and games. Finally, she couldn't resist a wonderful fragrance and said, after she applied it, that it made her feel young and happy. Arlenne was never without a pet dog or cat or both, and they gave her great comfort. She reminisced about her childhood neighborhood on west Jackson Avenue off Maple Street where neighbors talked over fences, visited on front porches, and listened to radios through open screen doors up and down the block. Above all, she loved being a mother and often said her fondest memories were as a young mother at home with her two boys. Despite heart disease, Epilepsy, and COPD, she never complained and overcame challenges with wit, humor, dignity, and positiveness. She was well aware that smoking hastened her demise and offered a caveat to others-- don't start, and if you have, quit! We wish to thank Arlenne's friend and physician, Dr. Gregory Doering, the east Montgomery Yokes Pharmacy, the many visiting nurses, and the staff of Spokane Valley and Deaconess Hospitals for the compassionate care they provided. Arlenne loved and will miss her many cherished friends: Jerry, Ricki, Christine, Colleen, Wayne, Heather, Anthony, Diane and others too numerous to list. Graveside Services will begin at 1:00PM Thursday, September 16 at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery 508 N. Government Way Spokane, WA. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society.
