Dorothy Eileen (Allen) Oberdorfer, aged 88 yrs, passed away Sept 16, 2010 in Spokane, WA after a 3 yr battle with cancer. She was born on Aug 7, 1922 to Carl M and Ethel M (Nipp) Allen in New Castle, IN. Dot graduated from New Castle Senior High School in 1940 and Ball State Teachers College in 1943 with a degree to teach music. Dot found much joy in music and was a concert pianist. Her true love was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She helped establish branches of the Church of God on Oahu, HI. Dot devoted herself to sharing the Gospel, from Hawaii to Samoa to Micronesia. Retiring from active missionary work in 1990, Dot moved to Newport, WA. In 1995, she moved in with her daughter, Elizabeth, in Cheney, WA. Dorothy served for over 50 years as an ordained minister and missionary with the Assemblies of God church. Known to many as Tutu, which is Hawaiian for grandmother, her faith will be missed by all. She is survived by her daughter Susan J. Oberdorfer of Discovery Bay, CA, her granddaughters Gwendolynn Druckrey and husband, Jeff Atkinson, Melody (Druckrey)and husband, William Goode all of Spokane, WA. Six great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Norma Lee Allen of Springfield, MI. Her son-in-law, Robin Merrill of Cheney, WA. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Elizabeth (Oberdorfer) Merrill and son, James A. Oberdorfer. Memorials may be made to the Division of Foreign Missions of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, 1445 Boonville Ave, Springfield, MI or the Salvation Army. A graveside service will be held at Marshall Cemetery, Sept. 18th at 11a.m.
