Caroline Thompson

August 24, 1933 — March 21, 2025

Caroline Katherine (Schwindt Dukart) Thompson was born in rural Dickinson, ND in Dunn County on August 24, 1933 to parents John V. and Barbara (Kary) Schwindt. Caroline was the third child born to her parents, with her paternal grandmother (Barbara Fischer Schwindt) providing midwife assistance.

Caroline attended a one-room elementary school in the Fayette rural area. She graduated from Killdeer High School in May of 1950. After attending Dickinson State Teachers College for the summer, she taught for one year in another country school within the Fayette community at the tender age of 17. In winter, her day began by preparing the wood/coal stove for heat after walking from the home of a nearby family with whom she stayed. Caroline married Mike C. Dukart on September 10, 1951. Together they had a son, Michael K. Dukart. This marriage ended in divorce in 1959.

During her span of life, Caroline lived and worked in North Dakota, Montana, Oregon and Washington. During her working years, she attended Community colleges in Salem and Bend, Oregon, earning various credits along the way. She retired from the State of Oregon on July 1, 1989, having worked as a clerk typist, welfare assistance worker and human resource assistant. She later volunteered as an RSVP reading tutor for ten years while living in Washington.

Caroline married Norman C. Thompson on May 25, 1980. They moved to Spokane, Washington in October of 1997 and shared a home there until his death on November 6, 2007.

Caroline is survived by son Michael; grandchildren: Keith and David Dukart, and Katarina (Dukart) Erofeeff. Step grandson, Kristofer Dukart, great grandson Emilian Erofeeff. Stepchildren: Vincent, Kurt and James Thompson, and Doreen, Cindy and Jeff Thompson. Step grandchildren to include, Kevin, Tor and Broder Thompson. Sisters: Lenora Stanger, Luella Hendricks and Lucille Lamprecht, sisters-in-law Maria and Lou Schwindt. Her South Hill Bible Church family and special friend Anna (Montgomery) Smith. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: John and Theodore; and sisters: Florentine (Steve) Metz and Patricia (Phillip) Walker, brothers-in-law Louie Hendricks, Everett Stanger and Philip N Lamprecht; as well as her infant brother Lawrence.

Caroline was a member of South Hill Bible Church, Spokane, and a former member of Germans from Russia Heritage Society. She enjoyed crocheting, caring for house plants, watching western movies and reading / studying the Bible. Special note from Caroline: Dear family and friends: Be happy for me. My salvation is in Jesus Christ. This makes my earthly departure only temporary, and I truly hope I will see all of you again at a later date, this of course by your receiving of Jesus Christ as personal LORD and Savior before physical death.

Rather than flowers, Caroline prefers donations be made to Life Services (Spokane) or Salvation Army.
