Charles C Callen

CALLEN, Charles C. “Chuck” (age 81) – Entered into rest on June 16, 2018 in Wellton, AZ, having been a resident there this past 2 years. Born in Jerome, Idaho, Chuck attended Wendell H.S.  and the University of Idaho prior entering the USAF in 1956.Following military service, he returned to southern Idaho where he started his family; and there he worked in the agriculture and trucking business. Then it was on to the west coast where he and his Dad started Callen Construction Company. In 1985, Chuck moved to Deer Park, WA, and with a new family, took on the 24/7 job of Farm Family. He and then wife, Mary (Burchett/Prufer) enjoyed farm life, loved old pickups, woodworking, and rock hounding. However, Chuck and Mary found a passion and a joy within the Masonic family.  He was a 50year life member and an active Past Master (Ferndale Lodge #264) with Boyer Mountain Lodge #134. Chuck also served the Scottish Rite of Spokane Valley in the offices of: Venerable Master, Wise Master, Commander, Master of Kadosh, and had served as the Wise Master and Director of the Ceremony of Remembrance and Renewal for numerous years.  He served at the Deputy of the Grand Master of the State of WA for District 30, served as Special Studies Deputy, a member of the Leadership Training Committee, a recipient of the Hiram Award (2004) and of the Grand Master Award (2006-2007), honored by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Washington.  Chuck was a member of El Katif Shriners and ROJ. And, he was a proud and active member of the Order of Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron and also as Worthy Grand Patron of the State of Washington. Enjoying 33 years of his life in this area, Chuck was known as a humble man devoted to “doing good”.Chuck was a quiet inspiration to all.  He is survived by his wife, Mary, at their Arizona home; a son, Charles E. “Tyke” Callen of Mt Vernon, WA; daughters, Brenda Kenward of Sacramento, CA, and Melode Vande Brake of Stanwood, WA; stepson, Rodney Prufer of Priest River, ID; siblings, Cleo Callen and H. Holmes; 7 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild; and a host of friends. A memorial service honoring Chuck’s life will be held at 12 Noon, on Friday, October 12th, 2018 at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N Division, Spokane, WA, with Rev. Dan Berg officiating and Rose Croix Funeral Team participating.  A graveside committal service will follow at 2 PM at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery, with Military and Masonic Lodge honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scottish Rite: Early Life Speech and Language Center, 506 W 2nd Ave, Spokane, WA 99201 or to the Spokane Shriner’s Hospital for Children, POB 2472, Spokane, WA 99210.
