KALLESTAD, Charles J. - Passed away peacefully on August 25, 2018 in Spokane Valley, WA. Chuck was born February 27, 1929 in Michigan City, North Dakota to Gyda C. (Upstad) and Charles M. Kallestad, the second of four children. The family moved from North Dakota to Spokane in 1941. Chuck attended Logan Grade School, and North Central High School. He enlisted in the Army prior to graduation and was with the U.S. forces in Japan at the end of WWII. When he returned from the service, he finished high school and worked as an iron worker on many dams in Washington and Idaho. Knowing that he needed to find a less stressful occupation, he decided to enroll in college at Eastern Washington University. He completed college, and was hired by Ryerson Steel Company, where he worked as a sales representative for 36 yrs. He retired and spent many wonderful years traveling with his wife Betty to Europe, Hawaii, and Arizona. He is survived by wife Betty, son Jeffery Kallestad and daughters Susan (Don) McAuliff, and Kristen (Brian) Costales, grandchildren Jon and Sydney Costales, Chloe and Liv McAuliff, sister Kathleen (Dale) Zimmerman, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and many good friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by brothers David and Lowell, and parents. A memorial service will be held at Riplinger Funeral Home on Friday August 31 at noon, followed by burial at Spokane Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a donation to the very special people at Hospice Spokane would be greatly appreciated.
