Daniel Duane Stewart

October 19, 1954 — November 14, 2023

Spokane

We are saddened to announce the passing of Daniel Duane Stewart on November 14, 2023. Born in Kennewick, WA on October 19, 1954 to Marvin and Elizabeth, Dan was the third of four children.

Dan attended Washington State University where he met his wife of 48 years, Karen, during his freshman year. After graduation, and a brief stint in California, they settled in Spokane to raise three children, camping with family and friends at Priest Lake every summer.

Dan knew food. He demonstrated his love to his family through cooking, founded a meat processing company, and obtained a Master of Science in microbiology from Eastern Washington University with a thesis on bacterial growth in orange juice (while working full time) before moving on to management roles in juice manufacturing.

In his spare time, Dan feverishly supported WSU football, golfed, and gave back to his community. He participated in the leadership of his church, volunteered, and officiated high school football for 48 straight years.

Dan is survived by his wife, Karen, his brother, Patrick, his sister, Carolyn, his three children, Matthew (Sara), Brian, and Katie (Brian), his grandchildren, Franklin, Oliver, and Madeleine, and his nieces and nephews.

His memorial service will be held at North Hill Christian Church 4620 N Post St, Spokane, WA 99205 at 10:00, Saturday, December 2, 2023.
