The funeral service for David Pontius of Eagle Bend was held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend with Pastor Kali Christensen presiding..Surrounded by his family, David, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at his home in Eagle Bend, MN, with the outstanding care of Lakewood Hospice.David was born to Mathew and Olga (Nelson) Pontius on July 31, 1942 in Clarissa, MN. He graduated from Eagle Bend High School with the Class of 1961 and later found his livelihood as a yard foreman. David was united in marriage with Helen Marie Clark on May 14, 2005, in Green Bluff, WA. David enjoyed being outdoors whether it was for fishing or gardening- with flowers being his favorite. Spending time with his family was always a highlight, especially with nieces and nephews. In his later years, David enjoyed traveling, and studying Native American and U.S. History.David was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Leona Pontius on July 31, 1995; siblings Donna (Derold ) Johnson, Loretta (Wayne) Olson, Virginia Beach and Norris Thorud; and niece Jenny Kaufman.David is survived by his wife Helen; step-children Kathryn Mayfield of Seattle, WA, Joseph (Joanath) Mayfield of Surprise, AZ, Andrew (Roseann) Coston of Elk, WA and Nathan (Jessica) Coston of Newport, WA; 13 grandchildren; siblings Janet Thorud of Plymouth, Roger Beach of Clarissa; and nieces and nephews Randy (Kim) Johnson, Rita (Jeff) Falkner and Wayne (Elaine) Johnson, Cindy Pratt, Bryan (Kim) Olson, Dale (Denise) Olson, Nancy (Dave) Toensing, Bonnie (Jeremiah) Johnson and Daniel (Nicole) Beach.Burial will be held at a 2 PM on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Peone Cemetery, Spokane, WA.In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.Minnesota arrangements were with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Bertha, MN.
